ROVERS PULL OFF MOST IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE SEASON
Bromsgrove Rovers pulled off their most impressive win this year on Friday when they piled on six goals against Halesowen. Their fifth double win in the West Midlands League fixtures was achieved with a 6-3 scoreline. Rain that had fallen in the afternoon left the pitch slippery and this had an influence on the first goal of the evening.
After 16 minutes of even exchanges Hooper missed a simple back pass, when he tried to snatch up the ball and left Goldsby without a challenge. Five minutes later, however, Craddock doubled round Argent and curled home an equaliser. Anderson put Halesowen back in the lead when he headed through a centre by Goldsby. Rovers looked the more aggressive and drew level when Craddock pushed back a centre by Mike Hellawell and Broadbent slammed the ball into the net. The home right-wing pair provided the best football and when a header by Broadbent was fisted out by Argent, Craddock converted from the penalty spot for a third game in succession.
Mid-way through the second half Broadbent went swaying through from midfield and shot past Green. After a good run by Hellawell, Broadbent rounded Green and centred for Merrick to head through unchallenged. Halesowen still looked to have plenty of fight left in them and got back a goal when Hooper went sprawling as he tried to punch out a centre from Goldsby. He only pushed the ball to Rushworth and the inside man fired it back into the net.
Bromsgrove got back their three goals lead when Chambers pushed on a centre from Taylor and Hellawell beat Green with a snappy shot. In the next raid Craddock drove the ball through Green’s hands but it hit the bar. Halesowen attacked again and Hooper made a good save from a strong drive by Anderson, who finally hit the bar with a long dropping shot from the wing.
