Halesowen share points
Following a narrow defeat at Nuneaton the previous Monday Halesowen visited Bromsgrove on Saturday and just saved the game in the closing minutes when Cottrill hit home a hotly disputed equaliser. They had bad luck when Fullwood had a header and a shot cleared off the line and fully deserved a point.
Bromsgrove : Hooper; O'Mahoney, Innocent; Abbott, Wainwright, Thomas; Prosser, Holmes, Vine, Perrins, Boswell.
Halesowen : Spittle, Kimberley, Field; Crampton, Culwick, Taylor; Sabin, Cottrill, Bell, McGrath, Fullwood.
Halesowen had a late cry-off when Anderson went down with 'flu and Sabin deputised. There was some very good and spirited play in heavy conditions and on the whole a draw was a fair result although the visitors had more "hard lines" Halesowen looked dangerous in the first half and should have taken the lead in the fifth minute when Bell and Cottrill combined well only for the latter to miss an open goal. Good work by Bell on the right ended with a fine cross but Fullwood's header was kicked off the line with Hooper well beaten. Prosser on the Bromsgrove right wing was showing up well and causing the Halesowen rearguard quite a bit of trouble. They covered well, however, and Spittle was not seriously tested.
Half-time : Bromsgrove 0 Halesowen 0.
The home team kicked down the slope in the second half and threatened danger immediately. They took the lead in the 55th minute when Prosser centred and Perrins just managed to get a leg to the ball with Spittle unsighted. Halesowen retaliated with a series of strong attacks and Bell and McGrath were tireless workers. The equaliser caused quite an uproar Bell played a ball forward and it hit a defender on the way Cottrill fastened on to it and scored with a low shot. There were furious protets for offside from the whole of the home team and the referee had a job to get the game re-started. At the end of the game there was a noisy demonstration against him by the crowd. The Town can be well satisfied with the result having already beaten the Rovers 3-2 at home.
