A full back, who played around 500 games for the Rovers in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s.
He first appeared for Rovers in September 1947. He had previously played for Hednesford Town and Darlaston. He soon made the left back position his own. In what was a fine Rovers season he played against Aldershot in the First Round of the F.A. Cup and in the final of the Birmingham Senior Cup where Rovers lost to Atherstone Town and the Worcestershire Senior Cup where Rovers defeated Hereford United 3-0.
He was one of the first names on the team sheet for may seasons and was a key player in a fine 1949/50 season when Rovers were runners-up in the Birmingham Combination and reached the First Round of of the F.A. Cup, where they lost 3-0 to Hereford United.
He was made team captain at the start of the 1950/51 season, taking over from joe Wainwright who had taken over player-manager duties.
He was granted a testimonial in March 1958 , when he had played 450 games for the Rovers. A Williams XI took on a R.A.F. Bridgnorth XI.
Away from football, at least in 1947, he worked for Lockheed Leamington, a company that made aircraft components and he lodged in Leamington. Whilst still at the Rovers in April 1948 he was selected to play for a Leamington XI against Dutch touring side Heemstede.
