Harold "Harry" Merrick was a forward, who made his debut against Redditch Town on 17 September 1910, in the Birmingham Combination. He had previously played for Stourbridge.
He was given a trial by Walsall reserves, who plied their trade in the Central Alliance League, in November 1911, but after continued to turn out for the Rovers.
He was joint top scorer with Frank Crow in the 1911/12 season, scoring 10 goals.
It was reported he signed for Walsall at the start of the 1912/13 season, but continued to turn out for the Rovers, he was in fact captain for much of this season, where he was again top scorer, with 11 goals from 29 games.
In February it was reported he signed for Walsall, where it was stated he had already occasionally turned out for Walsall Reserves.
Despite leaving Rovers in February, he remained the leading scorer for the season with 13 goals from 21 games.
In the 1914/15 campaign he played for Nuneaton Town.
After almost certainly serving in the Great War, he returned to the Rovers in February 1920. Despite only featuring in 10 games, he was joint leading scorer , with Payne, for the season with 5 goals.
he played in the first 3 games of the 1920/21 campaign, before leaving the Rovers.
He was the father of the legendary 1950s England and Birmingham City goalkeeper and 1960s/1970s Bromsgrove Rovers manager, Gil Merrick.
