William Henry Barrett was predominantly a left back who joined Rovers at the start of the 1911/12 season, aged 18. He had previously been playing for Stockingford. He was a regular in the back line with H. Skinner, and he was often the penalty taker for that season.

He joined Nuneaton Town at the start of the 1912/13 season, where he stayed until 1915.

After the end of the First World War he joined Leicester City when they were playing in the second division of the Football League, where he played over 150 games. He moved to Derby County in 1925/26 season before moving back into non league football with Hinckley United and Hereford United, before retiring in 1927.

He died in 1962 aged 68 or 69.
