William "Billy" Mason was a half back, who joined Rovers in December 1921. He then played in every game for the rest of that season, including in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final against Stourbridge, where Rovers lost 1-0.

He was a regular in the half back line for the following three seasons.

He was captain during the 1924/25 campaign. He fractured his arm in a game against Birmingham Trams in January 1925, but soldiered on to complete the game. He was out of action for the rest of the season, and that was the end of his Rovers career.

It was reported in the Bromsgrove Messenger in March 1928 he had captained the Birmingham Trams second team during the 1927/28 season, but he was forced to retire from playing due to ill health.
