Made his debut for Rovers at inside right in March 1939. He had been playing works football with Serck Radiators after beginning his career with Knowle.
He had a fine goal scoring record at Rovers. The Bromsgrove Messenger felt he had inexhaustible energy and "he was the Alec James of the Birmingham Combination"
