A centre forward who first appeared for Rovers in October 1935. He had been playing Kings Norton League football for Northfield Institute.
After a sensational start to his Rovers career, where he scored 20 goals in 15 games, he moved to Cheltenham Town in February 1936. His stay at Cheltenham was brief and he was back at the Rovers in April. He was the leading scorer for the season.
In 1936/37 his fine scoring record continued, in what was a very poor season for the Rovers. In April, against Evesham Town, he netted his 50th Rovers goal. He was the third player to achieve this landmark, and remarkably he achieved it in only 52 games.
1937/38 saw him continue banging in the goals and in January in a game against Evesham Town he scored his 74th (and 75th) goal for the club, becoming the all-time leading scorer, passing the record previously held by George Bushnell. He achieved this feat in only 74 games.
He was injured in January 1938 and was out of the side for some time and on his return it seemed the injury had dented his confidence. He was still, by some margin, the leading scorer for the season. This was the third season in a row he had achieved this.
He joined Solihull Town (who had just changed their name from Shirley Town) for the 1938/39 season. He also played for Halesowen Town.
He returned to Rovers at the start of the 1939/40 season. Although by November he was playing for Catshill Village Hall alongside his brother and ex-Rovers forward Bernard Lacey.
