Born in Broxburn, Scotland. Terrance Coyle as a 6 foot plus centre half who began his football career with Broxburn Athletic in 1919 and joined Scottish League Broxburn United in 1921. From there he joined Heart of Midlothian in May 1922, before moving on to St Johnstone in 1923. He also had spells back with Broxburn United in 1924 and with East Fife in 1925, in addition he spent time on the books of Hearts during 1925-26 without making a further first team appearance.

In late 1925 he joined Third Division (South) Crystal Palace, where he played at centre half. He scored twice in 28 appearances during the remainder of 1925-26, but featured only 5 more times in 1926-27 before being released at the end of the season, whereupon he joined non league Stafford Rangers.

He moved to Bromsgrove Rovers in February 1928, where his assured performances gained him much praise in the pages of the Bromsgrove Messenger. He was also deadly from the penalty spot.

He was made captain at the start of the 1928/29 season, but he requested to be relieved of the captaincy in December. He played in every match of that season and his consistent performances, usual at centre half, but sometimes as a full again met with frequent praise in match reports of the time.

He played in the 1928/29 Worcestershire Senior Cup Final, where Rovers lost 3-2 to Worcester City.

The 1929/30 season was not such a successful season for Rovers, but Terrance was still a fixture in the half-back line.

He finished his career with Cookley St Peters, whom he joined in 1930.
