Jack joined Rovers, from Hinckley United, at the start of the 1933/34 season. He was sometimes captain of the side during that campaign.
He initially played in the half back line, but was moved to centre forward when Sammy Small was transferred to Birmingham, the move was successful and Jack was a frequent scorer in what was a very good season for the Rovers.
He was captain and an ever present in the 1934/35 season, where he started the season in the half back line, before moving to centre forward and ending the season at left back.
He was again captain in the 1935/36 campaign, where he made his 100th appearance for the Rovers in the Easter derby against Redditch Town. He once again appeared in the back, half back and forward lines.
His importance to the Rovers sides of the 1930s can not be underestimated and can be summed up with a comment from the Bromsgrove Messenger in April 1937 - "Simons was still away from the Rovers team owing to his shoulder injury sustained against Redditch, and that ,someone remarked, meant the Rovers only had half a team on the field"
Before a game against Birmingham "A" in September 1938 he was presented with a wedding gift of a clock with a suitable inscription from the club and its fans.
In January 1939, in the Worcestershire Senior Cup semi final against Worcester City, he became the fourth player to clock up 200 appearances for the Rovers.
In March 1939 he declared himself as unavailable to play for the Rovers. He declined to play for the club the following campaign, ending a very fine career with the club
