Howard Giles lived in Bromsgrove, he was a half back who first appeared for Rovers in March 1937.
After being the regular right half for the majority of the 1937/38 campaign he struggled for game time in the following 2 campaigns.
During the second world war he was taking part in a Home Guard match at Bromsgrove Cricket Club. During the match he was taken ill and a doctor was called. He was carried into the pavillion, but died within 5 minutes. A post mortem determined he had died of a stroke. He was only 28 years old.
Away from football he had been a sheet metal worker at the Austin.
