Bromsgrove Rovers 4(2) Halesowen Town 0(0) Aggregate 4-2
Westgate Insurance Cup 2nd Round 2nd Leg
Rovers stormed through to the third round of the Westgate Insurance Cup with a convincing victory over Midland Division side Halesowen Town on Tuesday night. This was a superb all round team performance and easily one of their best so far this season.
Town simply had no answer to Rovers, who poured on the pressure and turned on the style. Within the first 20 minutes, Rovers had pulled back the 2-0 deficit from the first leg at the Grove last week.
Mark Rosegreen game them a great start with his 17th goal of the season when he latched on to Russell Parmenter's corner from the right after just two minutes.
In-form striker, Sylvester Cunningham levelled the aggregate score after 17 minutes. Stewart Brighton's through ball from midfield found Rosegreen on the edge of the box. The ex-Redditch man flicked on to Cunningham who showed some nifty footwork before firing past Hughes.
Rovers could do no wrong in an exciting game which thrilled the noisy Victoria Ground crowd of 1,182. Every player was in superb form - Richard Attwood's heroics in goal constantly frustrated Town, Brighton grew in confidence at left back and new man Nick Kershaw was also impressive.
The home side made it three after 67 minutes. Nigel Conniff's powerful shot from 25 yards out hit the bar and then bounced past the unhappy Hughes into the net. The minutes later the Reds made the game safe - striker Chris Hanks sliding the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.
