Worcestershire Senior Cup

Rovers, last seasons beaten Worcestershire Senior Cup Finalists, having ousted holders Kidderminster, swept through to this seasons final with a clinical demolition job on Halesowen in front of 1250 fans at the Victoria Ground

They had the sort of start usually reserved for their dreams - a sweeping move across the field, down the left flank, and then a pin point cross to the far post powerfully headed back into the far corner of the net.

Rovers did exactly that via Paul Cooper, Melvyn Langford and Malcolm Dunkley to set this game alight after only 62 seconds. To their credit Halesowen rallied strongly after this set-back and they scuttled busily about their work to push Rovers back but they lacked the sparkle and poise around the penalty area displayed by Rovers.

Rovers all important second goal on the hour finally deflated gallant Halesowen. Pete Allbutt's powerfully struck cross from the right was met by the head of the onrushing Shaun O'Meara at the far post and the ball shot into the net like a bullet.

Malcolm Dunkley, back among the goals after his starvation period early in the season, notched his second, and the games third when he latched on to a huge Bruce McLaren clearance to go clear and roll the ball past the stranded Phil Coldicott in the 68th minute.

The match had been played at a tremendous pace and it was only after this third goal that Rovers supporters could really relax. Halesowen had finally been put in their place by the rampant Rovers but for an hour they had looked really dangerous opponents. they deserve full praise in this great advertisement for non-league football.
