MATCH REPORT FROM THE BROMSGROVE MESSENGER

At Halesowen on Saturday, before 1500 spectators. Bromsgrove, pressed at the outset. and Page effected two smart saves from Pearce and Smith. At the other end Ordish had the ill-luck to hit the crossbar with the goal keeper beaten. Halesowen took the lead after 30 minutes, Wright receiving a pass from Ordish and easily beating Gwillam. Page, the home goalkeeper, made some excellent saves when his charge was severely attacked. Half-time: Halesowen 1, Bromsgrove Rovers 0.

On crossing over, Halesowen maintained the upper hand. Gwillam saving finely on numerous occasions. Bromsgrove rarely crosed the half-way line, but on two occasions during breakaways Page effected excellent saves. The home forwards bombarded the visitors' goal, but could do anything but score, hitting the uprights and crossbar on several occasion. Result: Halesowen 1, Bromsgrove 0.

"THE SPECTATOR" OPINION COLUMN

The Rovers journeyed to Halesowen on Saturday with every confidence of winning, after their previous success over Cannock, and some 300 supporters accompanied them in all kinds and classes of vehicles. But it was not to be, and the game ended in favour of Halesowen 1-0. Play opened vigorously, and Halesowen set the game going in a very fast pace. Kent, the old Rovers player, proved a thorn in the Rovers side.

Satchwell, after 10 minutes play, set Smith, the speedy outside-right going, and from his centre a score should have come about, but the outside men were having hard lines. Numerous corners fell to the Rovers in the first half, Smith placing six most accurately, but the Rovers could not score. Halesowen also had very hard lines. Gwillam was in great form, but during a tussle in the mouth of goal Halesowen registered number one.
.
The second half opened well in favour of the Rovers, Trahearne, who had been neglected, coming in for his chance. It was most unfortunate that the inside men were off their game, three open goals being missed in quick succession. Pearce, Owen, and Roach were to blame. Halesowen now took up the attack, Kent tried Gwillam with a beauty, which he brilliantly saved. Glazzard unfortunately met with a nasty accident, and was forced to be off the field come time. The game continued in favour of Hales- owen, whose half-back line played well together, completely putting the Rovers forwards off their usual clever game.
