MATCH REPORT FROM THE DUDLEY CHRONICLE

The first match of the season at Halesowen on Saturday was witnesses by a crowd of about 1,500. Halesowen had practically a new side, the forward line being entirely fresh. Teams:-
Halesowen.- Page; Partridge, Rawbone; Higgins, Satchwell, S. Pearson; Hyde, Morris, H. Pearson, Moore, and Saunders. Bromsgrove.-Hobday; Smith, Jew; Glazzard, Brothwood, Gumbley: Beaufoy, Heard, Pearce, Crisp, and Trehearn.
Referee: Mr. E. W. Long (Handsworth).

Halesowen won the toss and had the advantage of the slope in the first half. The visitors, however, soon forced the pace, and Page was lucky to save from Pearce. Two more raids were unsuccessful, and then the home forwards had more of the play, and at the end of 15 minutes took the lead. A corner was forced on the left wing, and this being nicely taken by Saunders, H. Pearson headed a lovely goal. This success spurred the home players on, and within a few minutes they increased their lead. H. Pearson and Morris broke away and the latter scored with a fine drive. Bromsgrove now had a turn of attacking, but Page was safe, two clearances from Heard and Crisp being of a masterly character. At the other end Hobday had a particularly lively time and was lucky to save a fast shot from Morris. A determined attack by the visitors was beaten off by Partridge, and Satchwell broke up several movements. Before the interval the home side further increased their lead. Hyde scoring as the result of some effective work on the left wing. Half-time Halesowen 3. Bromsgrove 0.

On resuming the visitors attacked and Page was given a warm handful by Trehearn, but he dealt with it in fine style. A rush to the other end saw Morris shoot against the upright, and Hyde followed with a beautiful drive which was only inches too high. The visitors were playing better in this half, and from a fine centre by Trehearn, Heard reduced the margin. Halesowen soon replied, Morris beating Hobday as the latter came out to save. It looked as if Halesowen were in for a big win, but Hobday defended in fine style. A penalty kick was awarded Bromsgrove, and Trehearn netted. In the closing stages play was fairly even, but no more scoring took place. Result-Halesowen 4, Bromsgrove 2.
